Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

As mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect, we take very seriously our role in keeping all children in our communities safe and cared for. When it is necessary for us to make a report of suspected child abuse and/or neglect the following documents need to be used. The Abuse Neglect Reporting Policy contains guidance on how to work with families, staff and community partners to insure confidentiality and safety. The Reporting form is to be completed for each report with the original going in the child's file and a copy forwarded to the Family Services Specialist. The body outline form is completed only when there are marks on a child pertaining to the report and should be attached to the reporting form as a second page if needed.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and each year we ask that the centers recognize this in some way. The symbol for this week is blue pinwheels or ribbons. Some of the ideas centers have had are:
Decorate the centers with blue pinwheels made by the families with something      they enjoy together or love about each other on each petal.
Distribute parent education materials on dealing with stress, positive parenting strategies and ways to build positive relationships.
Distribute a monthly activity calendar with ideas for things families can do together each day of the month.
Plan your parent meeting to focus on information on preventing child abuse and neglect, positive parenting, community resources for families.
Celebrate each day of the week with a fun parent/child activity focusing on building attachment and relationships and having fun together.
Have blue photo booth with silly blue props and encourage families to take silly pictures together. Have families or children decorate a frame for the family photo
Make positive paper chains: have parents write a positive thought, something they enjoy doing as a family, their favorite thing about their child on a strip of paper and hang your positive paper chain around the center
Parent and child handprints in blue paint with a parent pledge to keep their children safe. Display at center.
Print out motivational quotes and positive thoughts to use as bookmarks etc and put them out for families to take.
Create a parent information board with information and ideas on parenting, resources and stress relief.
